TAZOO is an augmented reality app (AR) that combines storytelling, nostalgia, and local communities. The project reconstructs the Tel Aviv Zoo, a beloved zoo in the center of the city, that operated between 1938-1980. A community of about 900 people was created to share memories, photos, and stories that, together with archival research, merged into a narrative AR experience that combines past and presents an experience for adults and children. The Zoo re-creation will be developed using AR technology, which incorporates visual elements into the existing environment in real-time. Through this technology, visitors in the garden will be able to envision the zoo as it once was superimposed on the actual garden via a mobile interface - allowing the user to fuse the past and present.
Over the past year have formed a strong collaboration with the Art and Culture Department of the Tel Aviv Municipality, and plan to launch the project during a unique event hosted by the city. We have also been recognized by the Doc-Aviv Festival, and won first place in it’s Next! competition for innovative documentary work.
